2 Terrible Examples of Neglecting Air-Conditioning Maintenance

July 31, 2017 AC Repair Air Conditioning Blog Commercial Residential 0

Everyone knows what happens when they neglect to maintain their vehicles: Belts wear out, oil runs low and lines crack. After too much neglect, serious problems can develop.

Air conditioners work the same way, but most homeowners never think to have their units checked. No machine can go forever without a checkup, and neglecting to maintain an AC unit can lead to a failure, leaving the home or office without temperature control. In Las Vegas, this is a serious problem.

At Royal Refrigeration, Heating and Air Conditioning, we service both residential and commercial air conditioners to ensure they are in top working order. We also provide AC repair if a problem arises.

For emergencies, we even offer a 24/7 service to make sure our clients don’t wait long without air conditioning. If you would like to learn more, please call us at 702-645-3000.

School Closes Doors When Air Conditioner Fails

Most AC failures occur when the unit has gone without maintenance for longer than one year. At that point, many issues can cause it to fail; for example, turning down the temperature in response to a particularly hot day can overexert the unit, and it may just cycle the hot air without cooling it.

This is what happened to a charter school in 2014. The Washington Post reports the AC broke early in the morning, and the temperature rose steadily throughout the day. To battle the heat, teachers broke out their old fans and offered students water bottles, but the heat proved to be too much for the kids.

The administration closed the school for a day to repair the system. The New Haven Register reports another school closed for a similar reason. That school recognized the AC failed early in the day and immediately sent children home because the weather forecast showed temperatures higher than 90 degrees for the day. The administration decided to replace the entire unit and isn’t sure when the school will reopen.

Workers Strike Due to Broken AC

For kitchen staff, the working environment is very nearly too hot even with air conditioning. Fryers, ovens and microwaves heat the room to barely manageable levels. The Huffington Post reports the kitchen staff at a McDonald’s walked out to protest an air conditioner that had been broken for at least one year.

The situation reached its boiling point when an employee became overheated and collapsed. Workers say they’ve demanded a fix since it broke last year, but the restaurant’s management refused to call a repairman. The overheated employee lost consciousness, and paramedics took her to a nearby hospital. If you are looking for an AC repair service in Las Vegas, call us!
