2 Radical Predictions for the Future of Air Conditioning
Air conditioning units have changed very little since their invention in the early 1900s. Still, they remain one of the most popular items for homes and businesses worldwide. ACHR estimates that AC vendors sell more than 99 million air conditioners around the world each year, and this number is likely to increase as global temperatures rise. It is surprising, then, that the technology behind air conditioners has changed so little over the years.
Apart from fine-tuning and perfecting the existing technology, the process and concept behind cooling air in a building has remained fairly consistent. Scientists are now looking at new ways to reinvent the air conditioner, and some amazing theories are starting to come to the fore. If you want to install an AC unit in your home or business, or you simply need repairs or maintenance on your existing Las Vegas air conditioning setup, it pays to call the professionals.

Mirrors May Replace Air Conditioning
The Guardian reports that scientists have developed mirrors that may reduce the need for air conditioners. These mirrors can send heat back into the cold reaches of the universe, and they may keep buildings cool and comfortable in the future. Researchers believe that these futuristic mirrors may work alongside air conditioners to reduce the amount of energy necessary to cool large buildings such as offices and shopping malls.
Scientists conducted an experiment in which they compared a roof painted black with a roof covered in a special mirror. The mirror was ultimately 41 degrees Fahrenheit cooler than the roof painted black. The mirror reflects almost all of the light that lands on it, and it also functions as a thermal radiator.
Experts do not believe that these mirrors will become mainstream just yet. The technology is still expensive and untested on a large scale, and for the moment, air conditioners are still the most reliable cooling option.
Electricity-Free Air Conditioning
The Economist suggests that we may eventually see air conditioning that does not rely on electricity for its power. According to experts, new materials containing multiple layers of silicon dioxide mixed with hafnium dioxide are able to reflect 97 percent of sunlight that lands on it.
This semi-conductor manipulates energy levels, and if correctly programmed, experts believe it can dissipate heat waves back into the atmosphere, essentially providing a cooling effect without the need for electrically powered air conditioning.
If you want to optimize the comfort of your home or business, a modern AC or heating unit is the only way to go. Give Royal Refrigeration, Heating and Air Conditioning a call today at 702-645-3000 to schedule a visit from the pros.
